Industry: Office and business campus
Country / region: United Kingdom (Reading, Berkshire)
Model: BR-6M-BL brushless direct-drive boom barrier with ANPR-2L reader
System scope: Two vehicle lanes, one visitor lane, loop detectors, Wiegand link to the existing access-control system
About 1,100 staff and contractor vehicles a day entered through a single lane, so the queue reached the public road at 08:30. Visitor passes were written by hand and the security team could not tell whether a vehicle was still on site.
Baroxon replaced the single lane with two 6 m brushless boom barriers and added an ANPR reader on each lane. The ANPR whitelist covers staff and regular contractors automatically, loop detectors close the barrier only when the vehicle has cleared the beam, and the controller reports every entry and exit to the building-management system over TCP/IP.
The morning queue now clears in under two minutes and the security desk no longer handles routine entries. Contractors are logged automatically, so the site can produce an accurate occupancy list at any time of day.
Test condition: 5 to 25 km/h approach on standard UK plates, 2,000 reads over 14 days. Measured value: 99.2 % correct reads in daylight and 98.4 % at night with infrared fill. Benchmark: entry-level ANPR without infrared fill commonly drops to 90 % or below after dark.
The site runs at 100 % duty with no cool-down pause, which a brushed AC barrier cannot sustain at this traffic volume. Loop detectors are used rather than photocells because a wet, sloping approach was blocking reflective beams.
