Turnstile and Pedestrian Gate for a Bristol Secondary School

2026-09-21 14:12:39

Project summary

Industry: Education
Country / region: United Kingdom (Bristol, South West England)
Model: TS-900 full-height turnstile with PG-600 swing gate
System scope: Six turnstile lanes and two accessible swing gates, staff card readers, anti-tailgating beams

Site problem

About 1,800 pupils arrived within twenty minutes. The old gates were held open during the peak to keep pupils moving, which meant anyone could walk in behind them.

Baroxon solution

Full-height turnstiles replace the pedestrian gates and stay locked until a pupil presents a card. Anti-tailgating beams detect a second person in the lane and alarm without trapping the authorised pupil, and two accessible gates are released from the reception desk.

Result on site

Pupils now enter through turnstiles with no gate held open, and the school can show inspectors a record of who was on site and when. Reception no longer supervises the gate at peak.

Measured outcome

Test condition: 500 walk-through sequences in a 600 mm lane, including deliberate close-follow attempts. Measured value: 100 % of tailgate attempts detected and alarmed, 30 to 40 passages a minute. Benchmark: turnstiles using a single beam typically miss 10 % to 20 % of close-follow attempts.

Why this configuration works here

The safeguarding requirement is not just that the gate is closed but that the school can prove who entered, so the reader log matters as much as the turnstile.
