Industry: High-end residential
Country / region: United Kingdom (Manchester, Greater Manchester)
Model: HS-3S high-speed barrier gate, 0.6 s opening
System scope: One entry lane, one exit lane, RFID windscreen tags, GSM intercom for visitors
The concierge raised the arm by hand for every arrival, including deliveries and taxis, which meant the entrance was unattended whenever the desk was busy. Residents complained about waiting and the management company was paying for an extra shift.
A 0.6 s high-speed barrier gate was installed on each lane with UHF windscreen tags for residents. Delivery drivers and visitors use the GSM intercom, which releases the barrier for a timed window and logs the call.
The arm now opens in 0.6 s and closes behind the vehicle without concierge involvement. The extra evening shift was removed and residents report no waiting at the entrance.
Test condition: 500 consecutive openings and closings at 20 degrees C, 4 m straight boom, no cooling pause. Measured value: 0.6 s opening and 0.6 s closing sustained without a duty-cycle limit. Benchmark: a standard AC barrier rated at 3 to 6 s cannot keep pace with a residential arrival peak.
Residents hold permanent tags, so the barrier never waits for a network round trip. The GSM intercom is separated from the tag reader, so a failed call cannot block resident access.
