Industry: Waste and environmental services
Country / region: United Kingdom (Cardiff, Wales)
Model: BR-6M-HD heavy-duty barrier, IP66 housing
System scope: Two lanes for skip lorries and vans, powder-coated housing, 100 % duty drive, wash-down rated
Dust, grit and corrosive run-off from the tipping hall made the previous barrier unreliable and the housing corroded through within three years. The site runs from 06:00 to 22:00 six days a week.
Baroxon supplied heavy-duty barriers in IP66 housings with a powder-coated finish and a 100 % duty brushless drive. Cable entries were sealed and the controller was moved out of the wash-down zone.
The barrier now runs a full working week without a duty-cycle pause and the housing remains intact after two winters on the site.
Test condition: continuous operation across an ambient range of minus 30 to plus 70 degrees C, 100 % duty, six days a week. Measured value: no thermal or moisture fault and a six-month maintenance interval. Benchmark: a barrier rated for intermittent use in the same environment typically needs a service every two to three months.
Environmental ratings, not opening speed, decide the service interval on a waste site, so the housing and the ingress protection were specified first.
